Bona Deck Oil

Bona Deck oil is a penetrating oil designed for protection of exterior wooden deckings. It is based on pine and linseed oil and contains additives that reduce the effects of UV-radiation on the wood.

Preparation

The surface to be treated must be dry and sanded back to bare wood. Sanding disc/screen or sandpaper grit 100-120 should be used for the final sanding of the wood. Do not apply oil if there is a risk for rain within 24 hours and avoid strong wind. Moisture content of the wood must be less than 20%.

Application 

  1. Apply Bona Deck Oil using brush or other suitable applicator at approx. 1lit/6-10m2. 
  2. After 20 minutes, distribute surplus oil to more absorbent areas or add more oil if required. 
  3. Repeat step 1&2 until the wood is saturated. Normally 2-3 treatments are suitable. Certain dense or tanalised timbers only require a single treatment. 
  4. 30-45 minutes from the final application, remove all surplus oil. Best is to use a buffing machine with a lint free cloth but on smaller deckings the procedure can also be done by hand
  5. Leave the decking to dry for 24 hours without load

Maintenance

The decking should be maintained with Bona Deck Oil as necessary. Once before and once after the summer season is usually an appropriate interval. 

  1.  Clean the decking thoroughly with Bona Soap added to the cleaning water (2%)
  2. Allow the decking to dry
  3. Apply Bona Deck Oil using a brush or other suitable applicator at approx. 1lit/10-15m2
  4. Allow the oil to be absorbed for 30 minutes and thereafter remove all surplus oil thoroughly using a cloth
  5. Leave the decking to dry for minimum 12 hours without load
  • Type of oil:Esterified pine and linseed oil 
  • Solids content: Approx. 35% 
  • Density 0,80 kg/dm3 
  • Dilution: Do not dilute 
  • Waiting time between applications: Approx. 20 minutes 
  • Application tool: Brush or suitable applicator 
  • Total consumption: Approx. 6-10m2 /litre per coat, depending on type of wood and application 
  •  Flash point: 36°C 
  • Cleaning: Tools can be cleaned in white spirit 
  • Shelf life: 2 years from the date of production in unopened original canister 
  • Storage: Store frost-free 
  • Disposal: Wastes and emptied containers should be handled in accordance with local regulations
