Tung Oil Wood Finishing
Tung oil is an extract from the seeds of the tung tree which when applied to paints and coatings polymerizes into a waterproof coating.
ready size 500 ml, 1L & 5L
- Provides a natural satin feel protective finish to floors and other timber
- Extracted from the seeds of the tung tree (Aleurites fordii)
- Dries quickly and polymerizes into a tough, glossy, waterproof coating. This property has made it especially valuable in paints, waterproof coatings and lustrous wood finishes
- Durable and easy to repair
- Size: Available in 1 L can, 5 L can or more (customized)
- Sand the surface of new wood
- Dip a soft cloth/rag into the finish and rub on to the wood until the wood is saturated
- Allow each coat to remain on the surface for 20-30 minutes
- Drying process needs 24-48 hours
- For a waterproof surface, apply 3-4 coats
- For exterior use, apply brushing method and apply 4-6 coats on very porous wood
Interior wood surfaces mighty need another surface coat every 2-4 years and exterior wood every 1-2 years, depending on exposure to sunlight and wood species.
Maintenance is very easy. Light scratches can be removed with light sanding and the addition of another coat of tung oil finish.
- No hazardous or toxic material
- Produces a mildly disagreeable odor for a few days after it is applied. This odor lessens with time, however some find that it can persist.
