Wood flooring fits well into Bali’s ecosystem. Not only is this a natural resource, it is renewable and recyclable. Flooring also requires low maintenance when finished properly. It does not hold dust and does not harbor bugs.
Wood is a unique flooring product which requires skilled craftsmanship to lie. This natural material requires care when installed, as it needs to acclimatise first to its environment, leading to a quality finished floor.
Like most surfaces, the floor requires a solid sub base. How this is achieved depends on the condition of the existing sub base. An onsite inspection is usually required.
Wooden floors are stabilised with plywood sheets fastened with glue, nails and/or screws to the existing timber floorboards or concrete sub base. This provides a flat contour-less finish to lay the flooring on. A plastic membrane is usually required to safeguard against water seepage. The flooring is then nailed or glued directly onto the plywood.
Wood batons (80cm x 2.5cm) can also be screwed to the concrete sub base, leaving a space of 30cm between each baton. The centre spaces can be filled in with foam or other soundproof/ insulating material, which allows you to nail your wood floor to these batons.
Wood flooring can be glued directly to concrete sub floors as long as sufficient efforts have been made to avoid any kind of underwater seepage or rising dampness. Specialist wood / concrete flooring glue is recommended for this purpose.
Concrete floors need to be finished and sealed with a good quality water proof sealers and self-levelling compounds. This is to ensure no water escapes upward into the wood flooring.
Wood is one of the easiest floor surfaces to clean. Static cloths remove dust and classic wet wipes can be used on small marks. To clean the whole floor it is recommended to wash with water using any light household detergent. Do not use solvent cleaners.
Tung oil is used to provide that natural look and feel of beautiful wood. This needs to be applied annually to ensure the wood is protected and retains its natural fibres.
The wood flooring is either glued or nailed to the sub-base using our own recommended products.
Little Tree is committed to protecting the environment and only uses eco friendly materials for all our installations. Our glue has undergone rigours testing and trials, and we comfortably recommend products as this gives us the confidence that any installation is carried out successfully.
Meanwhile, our adhesive allows maximum adhesion while providing enough elasticity to allow for wood movement during the heating and cooling of the floor.
